The mandible comes from a different dig but is clearly from the same species. It is not clear whether this specimen is an Australopithecus boisei or a Paranthropus boisei, but it is estimated to date as far back as 1.7 million years. It was discovered at Lake Turkana, formerly Lake Rudolph, in 1970.
